What is the best mouse for gaming?

A gaming mouse has a few things that make it better for gaming than your standard computer mouse. Here are some features to look out for:

DPI: This measures how many pixels your mouse can move across a screen when you physically move the mice one inch. For very fast moving games you’ll want a high DPI, however some shooters may benefit from a low DPI for improved aiming accuracy, especially if you don’t have a steady hand. Most gaming mice have an adjustable DPI built in which gets round this problem.
Programmable Buttons: Not all gaming mice will have this, but it's a great feature to look for if you’re going to be playing games such as MMOs where macros are used.
Adjustable Weight: Some mice come with extra weights that can be removed or added, to suit the users requirements.
RGB: Obviously this gives no improvements in gameplay, but it will fit in well with your gaming-themed setup! Pretty much all gaming mice will have some sort of backlighting, whether that's single color or RGB.

Is a gaming mouse worth it?

It really depends on what game you’re playing, and how often you play games. If you’re just playing simulation games, such as Cities Skylines or Sid Meier's Civilization, a gaming mouse is pointless. The price you spend on one should vary depending on your competitiveness too - if you’re just a casual gamer, there’s no need to spend a fortune. However for someone playing in a competitive field it may be worth spending more. Remember - a better mouse doesn’t automatically make you better at the game!
