The Factorio size for download on PC is only 3GB of HD space. We recommend using an SSD to help with load times, particularly if you're syncing hundreds of hours into a single base. Also, while the game starts of at only 3GB of space, any Factorio mods you install can easily balloon Factorio to a much larger size.

Factorio space mods

One of the most popular and expansive mods for Factorio is the Space Exploration mod by Earendel. This mod extends the Factorio endgame significantly by allowing you to board rockets bound for space, build platforms in space, research new space tech, and even create your own spaceship.

On August 25, 2023, Factorio's developer - Wube Software - announced they would be creating a Factorio expansion called "Factorio: Space Age."

Space Age is set to bring many elements of the Space Exploration mod into the base game, while also making several tweaks to the order of research unlocks and progression. Earendel, who works as a Concept Artist for Wube Software, explains that Space Age will be accessible to all Factorio players, while their mod "Space Exploration" is designed for challenge-seeking builders.

The Space Age expansion is currently slated for release sometime in 2024.
