Can I run Monster Hunter Wilds?

To run the Monster Hunter Wilds system requirements, you will need an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 GPU, an Intel Core i5-10400 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and 75GB of space.

The latest MH experience has some confusing system requirements at first glance until you realise that Capcom appears to be relying on the use of upscaling to keep its Monster Hunter Wilds requirements "accessible" on Windows 10 and 11. Unfortunately, optimization and performance issues have ensued, and you'll need a card that supports frame generation and upscaling if you want to stand a chance at 30FPS or higher.

The official Monster Hunter Wilds minimum requirements state that you can get a stable 30FPS at 1080p upscaled from 720p on the "Lowest" graphics preset with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD RAdeon RX 5500 XT graphics card with quality upscaling enabled, paired with an Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and 16GB of RAM. These requirements are quite high, particularly for older gaming laptops or PCs, and obfuscate the true hardware demands the game has if you want to run it at a native resolution.

The Monster Hunter Wilds recommended specs, however, are much higher, returning a 60FPS experience only if you have frame generation enabled with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 6600 GPU. The processor and RAM remain the same from the minimum requirements, further underlining the game's reliance on upscaling rather than optimization. This won't even get the game running on the highest settings, only enabling you to play on the "Medium" graphics preset.

If you want to enjoy the "High" preset, you'll need a much more powerful and quite expensive GPU such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT.

The Monster Hunter Wilds ultra specs are even more demanding, calling for an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT with 16GB of VRAM with DLSS and FSR features enabled. The developer does state that a 12GB VRAM card could work, but it's very likely that high-resolution textures won't display correctly should your GPU run low on VRAM, so aim for 16GB if you can. You'll also need an Intel Core i5-11600K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU.

You can also install the official MHW benchmark tool over on Steam, which only requires 29GB of HD space to run, and can tell you exactly how ready your machine is for this game. Just be warned, the official tool is not a quick scan as it first has to install a large number of shaders in order to properly stress test and score your device.

Monster Hunter Wilds size - How big is Monster Hunter Wilds?

The Monster Hunter Wilds download size on PC and laptop requires around 75GB of SSD space. You'll also need an additional 75GB if you download the optional High Resolution texture pack, making the total 150GB.

An SSD is required even on the minimum requirements in order to get the game running. So, if you need more space or want to make an upgrade, check the PCGamesN buyers guide for the best SSD for gaming or just check the latest, best prices for SSDs.

Monster Hunter Wilds Steam Deck

The official Monster Hunter Wilds Steam Deck rating currently sits at "Unsupported", and is unlikely to ever approach "Playable" or greater on account of the game's high system requirements. Testing by PCGamesN has proven that the game does not run well on Valve's console, though it will technically launch. Optimizations and adjustments could potentially make the game compatible in the future, but there is no official word that Capcom is working on such a project.
