Can I Run The Sims 5?
With at least eight years difference between the two games, one could have expected The Sims 5 system requirements to see a bit of a jump over its predecessor. Sims 5 was seemingly in development for some time under the title of Project Rene, even going so far as to release a playtest. However, it has more recently come to light that Sims 5 is more than likely not ever going to be a reality. Instead, EA will be focusing and expanding upon Sims 4.
However, this is still early days, and there is a chance that a Sims 5 will be launched in the distant future. When that will be is a matter of debate, and so your best chance right now of playing Sims 5 is to check out the Sims 4 system requirements.
Our original predictions for Sims 5 follows.
Taking our best guess, we think reasonable expectations for The Sims 5 minimum system requirements would have been to ask for an Intel Core i3-3250 or AMD FX 8370 CPU, alongside 2GB graphics cards such as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R7 370. It would have likely conformed to the standard of 8GB of RAM minimum, but we might have been lucky to see it play on devices with a slimmer amount of memory.
Bumping up to The Sims 5 recommended system requirements, we think you would have needed an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X processor matched with Steam's most popular GPU: the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. On the AMD side of graphics cards, we could have been looking at an AMD Radeon RX 590.
The Sims 5 download size - how big will Sims 5 be?
We don't know what The Sims 5 download size would have been, but it would likely have been bigger than the 18GB of storage space that The Sims 4 asks for.
Assuming that Sims 5 will instead be incorporated into Sims 4, there is a chance that it will add to the base game's download size considerably, bringing our best estimates of 50GB of additional content.
The Sims 5 release date
Sadly, not only was EA keeping a tight lid on The Sims 5 release date, but it seems that The Sims 5 won't ever be released. Fortunately, Project Rene (which was assumed to be Sims 5, but may instead be an expansion to The Sims 4) is getting a playtest very soon in what some are calling The Sims 5 playtest.
