Can I Run GTA 5?
To run the GTA 5 system requirements your PC will need at 4GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or similar, and 110GB of HD space.
GTA 5 initially launched on consoles in September 2013, and didn't see a PC release until April 2015. As a result, the GTA 5 PC requirements are fairly low when compared to other major releases in 2015. The very best gaming CPUs have come a long way, but an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and AMD Phenom 9850 from over 10 years ago are still enough to meet the GTA 5 minimum requirements, which only requires an AMD HD 4870 GPU, and 4GB of RAM.
However, as of February 2024, Rockstar have stated that Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems will no longer be supported for GTA V. If you previously played GTA 5 on one of these OS systems, you will need to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to play the game. Beyond a change in OS requirements, the GTA 5 minimum specs haven't increased any further since the game's PC release in 2015 .
If you want to meet the GTA 5 recommended specs, you will need an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or an AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics card alongside an Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD X8 FX-8350 processor, and 8GB of RAM. This level of hardware offers a much smoother and more crisp experience when playing the game.
However, as GTA 5 can be quite an intense experience, particularly in the GTA 5 Online mode, you might want to meet the GTA 5 Ultra specs which we've assembled from thousands of hardware tests. With an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 GPU, an Intel Core i5-4590 CPU, and 16GB of RAM, you should achieve a consistent 60FPS experience on the highest settings.

GTA 5 size
You'll need 110GB of storage space free for the initial GTA 5 download size, and may want to consider using an SSD over a HDD for the best performance. If you need more space, check the PCGamesN buyers guide for the best SSD for gaming.
GTA 5 key
There are plenty of storefronts offering a GTA 5 download, or Grand Theft Auto V if you're feeling formal. Purchase prices fluctuate all the time, but picking up a really good deal doesn't have to be a struggle. You can pick up the game for as low as $14.99 by checking out the Humble Bundle store, Green Man Gaming, and Fanatical.
Though you may end up paying full price for the game, you can also purchase a Grand Theft Auto V key from the Epic Games Store, the Rockstar Store, or from Steam. On rare occasions, you can even pick up GTA 5 for free, such as when Amazon Prime members were able to get GTA 5 for $0 in December 2018.
GTA Plus PC
While Rockstar announced a GTA+ subscription service in March 2022 for its online mode in the new PS5 and Xbox Series releases of GTA V, this service has not made its way to the PC version. As of 2024, the GTA+ rewards remain out of reach for PC players, and Rockstar Games are unlikely to do anything about it for the foreseeable future.
GTA 5 settings
GTA 5 may be relatively old, debuting on the PC back in 2015, but it's still as popular as the day it launched. At the time of its release, high-end rigs struggled to run the game at High and Ultra settings, but recent advancements in CPUs and GPUs have made running GTA 5 much easier.
The open-world of GTA 5 is massive, which can lead to long load times. To combat this, we recommend installing GTA 5 on an SSD, which will drastically reduce time spent staring at loading screens.
If you're struggling to maintain a stable or high frame rate, try switching the anti-aliasing option from MSAA to FXAA or just turn off the setting completely. Post-FX settings like bloom, HDR lighting, and heat shimmer can also have a big impact on performance. Keeping these settings in particular a step or two below their recommended settings can help with fps gains.
Texture quality has a small impact on performance, so if you want to keep the game looking decent on a lower-end system, you should be able to keep the texture quality relatively high. Turning down Shader Quality has a fairly small impact on the visuals, but can give a boost to performance.

These updates are separate from the GTA 5 weekly updates, which Rockstar rolls out not to patch an issue, but to release new cars, modes, or cash and RP boosts on select missions on GTA Online.
